Talk:Theme Switching

Just a few notes about the topic at hand. Good start!

As a reminder, here is the description from the task list:

Theme Switching, whether automatic via plugin or manually by the visitor, is a very hot topic on the WordPress Forum. We need an article about the wisdom, tips, advice, and methods for using theme switching devices and methods with good screenshots of examples.

The first part of your article refers to the Presentation Panel as the "Theme Switcher". This is incorrect. It is properly called the Presentation Panel and it allows the user to "change" presentation Themes.

A "Theme Switcher" is a plugin or utility that allows the "user" or visitor (not Administrator - though they can use it as a visitor on their site, so to speak) to change the look of the site. This happens by choice or by the Administrator's choice and use of the Theme Switching plugin or utility they use which may change the look of the site with every page refresh (annoying but popular with young people).

The article may address the easy way of changing themes within the Administration Panels, but it's purpose is to describe the use of Theme Switching plugins and utilities. Here are some points to consider:

  • Why would someone want or need to use a Theme Switcher?
  • What are the benefits of using a Theme Switcher? Accessibility? Entertainment? Showcasing CSS/Design talent?
  • General instructions on installing a Theme Switcher (try to avoid specific instructions for only "one" Theme Switcher. We like to avoid promoting one plugin over another.
  • List of where to find such plugins like Plugins/Styles and so on.

There is probably more but this may get you on the right track.

Thanks again!!!! An article on using Theme Switchers has been long needed. Lorelle 12:01, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Glad you are healthier and feeling better. AND ready to get back to work here. We need all the help we can get! ;-) The questions above still need to be answered, though, they kind of are. Search the forums and make a list on a subpage of your user page like [[User:Dannnnny/Switchers]] of the questions people ask the most about theme switchers. People have problems with them and they are really popular. While not promoting a specific plugin, try to address the issues they have in a section called "Troubleshooting Theme Switchers" or something like that in the article. We just need a little more to flesh this out and it's good to go. Thanks again. Lorelle 00:39, 7 Jul 2005 (UTC)
