Page removal and excluding pages

Admin muskels (as my dad calls them) applied. Gave me my first laugh of the day. Thank you! Lorelle 13:49, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for asking about the Raw Logs from the meetings and the issue of spelling. No, there is no current way to eliminate them. Like the foriegn language pages, there is nothing to be done with those. They are the raw notes of the meeting and they should be ignored for spelling errors.
And thanks for staying on top of the spelling page. Unfortunately, it doesn't catch "all" the misspellings, only the most common ones. I find plenty of poor spelling in documents all the time that are not on that list. Dig into the documents, especially those in Copyedits with your spelling wand and you will find plenty to fix.
Thanks!!! Lorelle 18:53, 5 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Thanks again, and if there is SOMEWAY to exclude those pages, I hope we find it because there are a few others that need to be excluded from other accesses. And I'm just covering for Carthik who is having fun in the sun, dang it. How dare he. Lorelle 19:26, 5 Jul 2005 (UTC)

You are my hero!!! Thank you for uploading the search button so fast and for fixing so many things lately. Wow. I just wanted to give you a heads up and ask a favor. I will be probably evacuating from the US Gulf Coast in the next day or so as Hurricane Dennis comes pounding in. I maybe offline for several days. Can you continue to keep your good eye on things and help the others keep the vandals away and the Codex in one piece while I'm gone? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! Template Tags Question

You posted a note on http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/get_posts about the orderby. If you do not get an answer in a day or so, post a note on User:Kafkaesqui talk page as he tends to be the expert on the template tags. Good catch! Thanks. Lorelle 21:54, 12 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Just a reminder, unless invited, we don't touch user pages with edits. Lorelle 02:26, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
No chump. We all do it. And I'm the most notorious user page editor of them all. He forgot to put a DRAFT notice on his page, which is something YOU can do to help with the process. If you find a user page subpage that lacks a {{Draft}}, put it there to remind EVERYONE. Lorelle 12:43, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)

TOC Update

You are doing great things, and I have a task request, in addition to the FABU article you are working on. That is MUCH needed.

This effort is two-fold. Hopefully you are familiar with Special Pages (sidebar "toolbox", bottom of the list). In there is a list of "All Pages". I have started a VERY rough draft of a possible future table of contents/index list at User:Lorelle/TOC. Mediawiki seems to lack the ability to create a good index of pages, so we have to manually create one until a script or something can be found. If you could check that list against the All Pages list to make sure we have EVERYTHING in there, I'd really appreciate it. We're heading back from Memphis to Mobile, returning after the Hurricane, so I'm on the road right now and I want to get this "done".

Part two is then checking to see which of the articles on this new TOC list are NOT on the table of contents (sub TOC not the front page, like Working With, About WordPress and so on). I'm going to be changing the placement and structure of these pages based on the new TOC "grouping" and I need to know if anything got left off the list. Mark it with something like "Needs TOC" or "NO TOC" or something like that after the link title and that will help. When you are done with the TOC listing, I and others will go through and rearrange and separate things based upon what we learn from the list. Then I will apply these changes to the front page and sub TOC pages. And we'll start adding new categories.

As you go through the list, if you see a "better way" of grouping things, either do it or make a note in the discussion page for that article.

You are getting REALLY familiar with what is here and not here, so if you also find any gaps in the documentation, like articles that we need to have but are not listed, make a note on your user page or a subpage of your user page and let me know. I'm going to be completely revising and updating the Codex:Tasks list and I'm looking for serious holes and lacking in the documentation.

Have you signed up for the docs mailing list? I just want to make sure you are getting the news from those discussions, too. Thanks for your help. And you can say no. I just wanted to ask someone familiar with the Codex, and you are getting familiar. Thanks! Lorelle 12:43, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)

  • Looks like my response to you got purged with the Codex churning. Anyway, I spent a little time trying to fulfill your request. Sent it along via email. If you really want a listing of it on the article's discussion page, let me know and I'll put something together. Hopefully I've helped a little. Safe travels. --Schulte 08:34, 14 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Back to Editing Codex

It's good to get back to editing, but don't forget, we haven't gotten the OKAY solidly from Matt, so be warned. It looks like it might be ready tonight or tomorrow but some things just can't wait, dang it.

As always thanks for your hard work, and ease up on the "we're" to "we are" and "it's" to "it is". That's how I like it but I'm babysitting the Codex while Carthik is on vacation and he likes the "'s" informal. You should have SEEEEEEN the playful, joking, and totally silly crap I edited out in the early days of my volunteer time. Horrid jokes that weren't even funny about "if you need help with this, I take payment in coffee" and other nonsense that I couldn't figure out so I deleted it. It's better to keep to the serious, but we editors also walk a fine line between informal and "official". Ah, the agony.

And you are a life saver for the additional PR links. These are AWESOME!

Thanks!! Lorelle 21:02, 18 Jul 2005 (UTC)

  • Just a habit I guess. I looked over Codex Voice, Style, and Audience and if the Codex is to have a voice of authority, it would seem to me that the use of the informal negative might be seen as an obstacle. I think you can have use the formal negative and still have a friendly conversational voice. I'll keep the advice in mind, but I might not be able to shake the convention. --Schulte 14:25, 19 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I feel like I'm a nag lately. Don't mean to be. Up above in your highlighted box you are setting a convention for holding a conversation on the Codex that breaks the Codex guidelines. I know holding conversations across talk pages is a PITA but that is the only way "I" know you have responded since I won't check your user page. Read the "Welcome" which explains how this is to work. Until they come up with a better way to trigger a response that says "message waiting for you" on ANY page, for dialogue on user pages (articles are different since the conversation is ABOUT the article itself and may help others in the future), we do it the way that will trigger the "Message Waiting" note. Come up with a script we can use to change it, and I'd be a happy girl.
On a more positive note, did you see my note in the Fundraising and Promotions/Media List page about not being able to find a way to contact The Blog Site. I think they could be really useful but I can't figure out how to track them down. You listed some GREAT contacts and I'll be sending out some more and listing them today. Thanks!!! Lorelle 14:46, 19 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Lorelle, point me in the direction of this "Welcome" page. I put that convention up there because it is a PITA. I looked at Wikipedia's How to keep a two-way conversation readable and it seemed like a logical approach. I find it a bit tedious to bounce between user talk pages (not that I have many conversations going) to keep refreshed on what I've been saying or what has been said to me. Discussions doesn't explicitly say that the convention above isn't allowed. I wouldn't mind watching your talk page and carrying on conversations there, exclusively. You're not a nag either.

This thing:

{{Welcome}}

Duly noted. Conversely, if the discussion begins on your talk page, I will continue the conversation there unless you explicitly tell me not to. I'm going to leave the notice up there, but for you, I'll stick with the Welcome method for you and hope I can keep things straight. Starting now (not including this one).

get_posts

I'll bang on it, and if I see any need of correction I'll drop it in its talk page. -Kaf 18:55, 19 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for cleaning up front page

Thanks for finding the extra div on the front page. We got hit by a vandal yesterday and I had to go WAY back a bit to grab an older version and clean it up back to normal. I must have missed that. You are a star! Thanks for cleaning up our messes behind us! And great help on the Statements page for PR. I hope we get something organized with this soon. Lorelle 19:17, 28 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Keep an Eye on Images

While it hasn't become a problem...yet, we are aware of people who put images into wiki sites and then link to them to steal bandwidth. Can you help me keep an eye on Image:addtomyfeedster.gif and others and if they are not used within a Codex Page within 1-2 weeks, remind me and I'll delete the image. I've cleaned out a few already but I need reminding once in a while. Thanks! Lorelle 16:30, 31 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder of the unused image page. I went through and cleaned out a few of the nasties and left some warnings on the pages of a couple others who use the images on their user pages but their user pages content and activity on the Codex is null. I called it "housekeeping" cleaning up and gave them a warning. You are wonderful! Thanks. Lorelle 13:43, 1 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Content Article

I have been laboring over this for a few weeks and I'm sick of looking at it. User:Lorelle/Customizing_The_Content I still have more to do like add images and links to other "stuff", but can you go over it with your fine tooth comb and clean up the mess I'm sure I've made of the language and code? You are a star. Thanks!

Also, as if you don't have enough, SOMEONE has to go through the keyword descriptions on the Plugins List to clean up the language and spelling. It's....amazing and needs help. Anything you can do would be appreeee-she-ate-ted. Tanks. Lorelle 22:37, 8 Aug 2005 (UTC)
