Talk:Creating a Static Front Page

What do we want from this page?

De we want to rewrite this page with the new way to do it (as of WP 2.1), or do we want to mark it as "Old Page" and put in a link to a new page with how it's done now? I would guess the former, but I don't want to overwrite someones hard work if I don't have to. Stevish 16:53, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Customizing the Static Front Page

EDITORS COMMENT: We need to have information on how to change the sidebar, pull in posts to the "static" content (or show it below the static content (which is really a sticky post, but let's explain and link to how to create a sticky post), and other simple tips for customizing the static concept.

(I removed this from the wiki page, please keep discussions on the talk page. Also, all of those things are answered in the codex. See pages on "The loop", "query_posts" etc. Nkuttler 09:12, 24 March 2010 (UTC))

Please Clarify

The paragraph

4. NOTE: If Permalinks are not enabled, go to Settings > Permalinks and enable them as a page address of /index.php?p=423 defeats the purpose of making a static front page.

Is not very clear to a beginner like me. The permalinks page has several options. What option should be chosen to create a static front page? The sarcastic tone of the paragraph is not helpful.

I think the paragraph should read:

NOTE: If Permalinks are not enabled, go to Settings > Permalinks and select any option except the default /index.php?p=423 option.

(my confidence in my WordPress knowledge is not high enough to make the change)

Thanks for the report; I've removed this note entirely, because I don't think it is needed.
