Wording of opening paragraph

I would like to suggest a change to the wording of the opening paragraph, suggested change is shown below inside quotes.

"The purpose of this page is to outline solutions to common questions asked in the WordPress Support Forums. Please add, edit, or remove questions and answers appropriately."

Micah, i do have some further suggestions, would you like to continue a discussion for changes here on the talk page or would you prefer that i simply jump in make a few changes (i don't mind if you'd prefer to thrash out the ideas here first).

Changes

Go ahead and edit it, just make a note if you don't mind so I can see what's changed :)

You can use the History button to compare differences, it would be easier if you use that, rather then me document each one. I've not had as much time as i'd have liked today, but i'm making a start on cleaning up the output HTML, if you view source you'll see there's various pieces of invalidly nested elements, i'm going to tidy those up first (so visually you should notice very little change).

Once i've fixed the element side of things i'll work on other bits.

Do you know what the intention of this page is, i've noticed the "Forum Pasteable Answer" sections, is this for volunteers to refer to? .. the title is not indicative of the purpose..

If the page is for volunteers i'll take that into account with any changes, if it's a FAQ for general use(for all WP users), i think the forum pasteable answers should be removed or alternatively alter the heading to "Forum Pasteable Suggestion", since the information is not necessarily a solution, but more a suggestion of how to troubleshoot the problem.

Further to above suggestion, maybe re-wording the "Forum Pasteable Answer" to "Forum Copyable Suggestion" would be more suitable .. since there's not really any such word as pasteable.

In terms of localization efforts i think if we use "Copyable" we'll make the translation process easier since it's a more commonly recognized word.

Yeah, that was me, sorry for not identifying myself :) My codex skills are really lacking, so I'm sure there were some code typos and things. Please do edit any of those that you notice. I think the intention of the "Forum Pasteable Answer" was just intended to be a duplicate the the answer above it, just written in a format that would show correctly if copied-and-pasted into a forum post. I thought about it not being a word as I was editing the page yesterday, I just didn't think I should change it. But that's fine if you think "copyable" is a better term. Great point about localization. That's great to have you go over it, because I'm really more of a novice in some areas of WP.

I'm still editing now, have been fiddling over the course of the evening ... i'm still picking up the codex(wiki) syntax myself.

Regarding the "pasteable" term it was the spelling that got me looking, so i googled but couldn't find anything conclusive(pastable seems to the accepted spelling), but i started to consider other words, and in doing so it got me thinking about translation, so figured something more common might be appropriate.

I'll submit a load of changes once i'm done(rather not submit one or two at a time, i think that's needless, using preview is fine), there's always the "Undo" button if you/me(or anyone else) decides against the changes.

Ok i've submitted various changes(more to do). I've temporarily hidden the "Forum Copyable" areas with a simple display:none element wrapped around each. The reason i've done this is because i've not had sufficient time to write updates to those areas to. I'd like to finish up on the big changes before re-writing those areas to match(if there's any reason to keep them).

Does anyone wish to raise an objection to removing them, and if so, would you be willing to consider an alternative of moving them into the bottom part of the document as a sub-section so they remain out of the way, but linked to via the Table of Contents.

T31os 05:01, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

at the bottom

Keeping them at the visible bottom might be a good idea. Many could be removed, but for answers where there are a number of links, or formatted code, it just makes things simpler and saves time. mrmist 08:43, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

--- Agreed, i'll move the answers to the bottom. I'm going to toy around with the structure a little more, to utilise the TOC a bit better (and work on some rewording), then i'll work out the extras like copyable answers toward the end.

Who'd have thought these Wiki's would take up so much time.. T31os 14:34, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
