I'm not a text blogger but you could say I'm an image blogger as I publish a cartoon a week based on Scottish words. Also a graphic designer and web designer.
My interests are in using WordPress as a CMS. Which I've begun to explore.
I'm very much a beginner with no PHP experience but a good bit of Flash Action Script and Javascript So PHP is not entirely un-understandable. Though I'm not much better than a foreigner trying to speak the local lingo using a dictionary rather than a phrase book.
I'm good with xhtml and pretty good with css and have already made a start using sandbox and trying to get beyond the surface look I see in so many themes. The same or nearly the same thing skinned with only different images and different colours.
My training as an illustrator makes me believe in communication not decoration. This means that anything you build has to be effective, work and do it's job - not just look fantastic. Looking fantastic is almost the byproduct. I'm meaning design. I'm a fan of the work of Steve Krug and others like him.
I'm good at structuring, formatting and communicating information and seeing it from the users point of view. Provoking and engaging the target audience to overcome resistance and get the message into their brain exploiting whatever media that best suits the job.
I don't know how much I'll be able to do here but my intentions are good. I'll at least create something about easily activating Apache, PHP and MySQL to run locally on a Mac (Using Mamp).
The basic reason I'm here is the whole idea behind the commons license and such things I'm supportive of. And WordPress is a good product I now know.
