wp-layout.css is no longer included with WP v1.5. Therefore, the wp-layout.css Reference is not necessary. Your work is appreciated, but please bring this up to WP v1.5. For starters, v1.5 now uses style.css. There is an existing guide from the old wp-layout.css here. Also, please read this. The Codex will be primarily focused on WP v1.5, we do not need resources for v1.2.x. If you have time, please dissect the style.css file instead.
