Dollar sign in secret keys

Hi Jack,

I saw your edit here. I just wanted to make sure that this issue has been reported to someone so that it actually will get fixed. Where did you get your information from, and have you reported this?

Thanks for helping to improve the codex.

Hi J.D.

I encountered the '$' error when installing WordPress on my local computer following the instructions at [<http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_on_Microsoft_IIS>]. When using the Microsoft Web Platform Install 5.0 as instructed, the CONFIGURE step asks you to enter the six keys. The MS Web PI CONFIGURE step specifically notes that '$' characters are not legal in any of the six keys, and returns an error if any of the keys contains '$' (or other invalid) characters.

I did not know who or how to report this, so I hasn't been reported separately yet.

Let me know if you other questions or if I can be of further help.

Thanks, Jack

Hi Jack,

I think maybe you should move your note to the Installing on Microsoft IIS page. I found the origin of this requirement, and apparently it only affects IIS. So I don't think there is a need to have the note on the main page for the secret keys, because it doesn't matter for most people. What do you think?

Hi J.D.,

Agree, I'll move the note to the Installing on Microsoft IIS page. Thanks, Jack
