This looks good. Anything need adding? Or subtracting? I'd like to see pingbacks and trackbacks linked to the glossary, and a few other minor words, but it looks good to go. Lorelle 01:39, 12 Feb 2005 (GMT)

Confused about Settings

I've just installed WordPress for the first time. I am confused over the correct settings to achieve my objective.

First, I wish to be the only moderator. I am the site administrator, and therefore am at Level 10.

Second, I wish to allow users to register and comment, but all at the same and lowest level allowable. Furthermore, I want ALL comments to be held for moderator before appearing.

Here are my settings: I have Options/Writing/Newly Registered Members set to "cannot write articles" because I only wish to allow registered members to comment, not write articles.

In Options/Discussions/Before a comment appears set to "an administrator must approve the comment", and "comment author must fill out name and e-mail". I have left blank the third option because I want all comments to be held for moderation.

Here's my problem. Under these settings, I registered TestUser1. I logged in as TestUser1 and submitted a comment to an article. The comment appears under the article immediately, but it also appears in Manage/Awaiting Moderation.

Question: If all posts are to be held until approved by a moderator, why are they appearing immediately for all to view?

SELF ANSWERED! The problem is with browser. The repeated logging in and out as various users is messing with the cache and session. When I use two computers, one as Admin and one as User, the my settings prove to be correct for my objective.

Glad you answered the problem, but for future information, the Codex doesn't not provide support for individual questions. You will need to visit the WordPress Support Forum for help. Lorelle 01:40, 5 Aug 2005 (UTC)
