User talk:Yami McMoots/Renaming Scripts

This is how I renamed the comment/trackback scripts on my own WordPress installation (version 1.5). Although it has caused no harm to my site, it hasn't been very effective at stopping spammers. As far as I know, no one else has tried to follow this particular set of instructions; I can only vouch for my own experience.

I'm unfortunately too busy to do any further testing/polishing; anyone who stumbles across this page should feel free to add their own notes.

So I created this in my userspace because I don't like the current title. Suggestions? yami 21:48, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I've just done wp-comments, and it seems to be okay.

I've also created a file in wp root to explain to my future self which files I need to copy/replace after an upgrade.

I wonder, is there any advantage in making a custom script location part of the core, with location recorded in wp-config, or does this method rely on its relative obscurity?

It would force the spambots to read each and every site for the script location, I suppose....

Trackback

In contrast, the trackback renaming seems out of date - the files mentioned do not contain the reference, or no longer are part of the core.
