New comer

Hi Michael,

Thank you for you welcome message. I'm joining you to try and help in the french translation of the codex: "When you see the mountain from far, you think you can climb it. But then, the closer you get, the higher it seems. Still, if you want it, you can climb it."

jHodgdon here...

Hi Michael, thanks for the encouragement message! One thing I am a bit confused about is whether I should remove the (copyedit) designation on Codex pages, if I think my edits have cleaned it up sufficiently. Or is one of the Codex editors supposed to go through and verify?

I discover 2 stuffs

One abour translating, one about URI, please visit for details http://codex.wordpress.org/User_talk:Oradoe

blocked user

Hi Michael,

When trying to add something on a talk page today, I was told that I was blocked:

Your user name or IP address has been blocked by MichaelH.
The reason given is this:
Autoblocked because you share an IP address with "Smash123". Reason "defacing codex".
You may contact MichaelH or one of the other administrators to discuss the block. Note that you may not use the "email this user" feature unless you have a valid email address registered in your user preferences. Your IP address is 63.208.234.32. Please include this address in any queries you make.

I couldn't write to your talk_page, nor did I find a link like "E-mail this user" so I had a look how long I was going to be blocked (it could not be me because I'm not Smash123 nor can I have the IP address of 63.208.234.32 'cause I'm living in Turkey...!) - fortunately the block was removed after 16:00...

Do you have any clue of what might be the reason for me being blocked? --katpatuka 19:34, 11 Feb 2007 (UTC)

MediaWiki is quite old too ;-)

Autoblocked - Spammer

Hi Michael.

I have suscribed to the wiki very recently. Yesterday, I had some trouble with the wiki. Sometimes, the system detects me as a spammer.

Autoblocked because you share an IP address with "Programy". Reason "spammer".

Please let me know what I can do to avoid this problem.

Sorry, but the IP adress is not given with the French interface.

Best regards.

licenses

Have a look please Talk:Using_Themes/Theme_List#Licenses --TomK32 08:53, 11 Apr 2007 (UTC)

restructuring themes list

have a look at my proposal over there. --TomK32 06:08, 15 Apr 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to bug you again but I meant that here: Talk:Using_Themes/Theme_List#complete_change_in_structure just a bit above. It would solve the license and sponsor thing via categories. --TomK32 12:46, 15 Apr 2007 (UTC)

Themes Removed (again!)

I just re-uploaded the themes with the correct URI, but for some reason the theme are continually removed. If I am doing something wrong let me know, if not, could you tell me who is or why the themes are being removed? hso

Thanks for adding that theme with the correct link. --MichaelH (talk) 01:01, 29 Apr 2007 (UTC)

Documentation on WordPress plugins

Hi,

Was curious if we could start to write up documentation on WordPress plugins here, or is this wiki supposed to be strictly for WordPress only?

Hey User:Christophe - don't see why not--just interested what you have in mind? MichaelH (talk) 19:13, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
I have been looking into using [Gengo] for a bilingual blog that I am building, and I thought it would be nice to have a wiki for people to contribute to documentation on it. Seems like it would be nice to have documentation for user contributed plugins coupled here with the official WordPress wiki documentation. Since this plugin has a lot of template functions, it would also be useful to have individual pages devoted to each function similar to the WordPress template tags (functions) that are documented on this wiki. What URL structure would be ok to use? Something like: http://codex.wordpress.org/plugins/gengo/gengo_list_pages ?
I'd say just http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Gengo to begin with but if you think people would use it and fill it out then your suggestion seems okay. I'd be interested in Jamie's view of that also. One more note, please use signature ~~~~ when leaving comments such as this. --MichaelH (talk) 19:12, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
I have been talking with Jamie over in the Gengo forum [here]. He said he wouldn't mind having the documentation over here at the Codex, but he voiced concern about the ability to create documentation in multiple languages. I know that you can input text in multiple languages with this wiki, but the UI/menus aren't localized right? --Christophe 02:51, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
That could be a problem ;) --MichaelH (talk) 15:56, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for asking Danbradster that...

I'm the author of the @thens theme. I couldn't figure out why it keeps getting removed, so I'm glad you asked too. Thanks:) Vasken 01:17, 7 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Help with page

MichaelH, I am working on a new page that you added stub and categories for. I think it's ready to go, but this is my first time editing Codex so I don't want to remove stub if there's something I still need to do. Can you take a look and let me know if there's anything else?

Here it is: Windows Live Writer Help

Thanks!

Stub removed. Thanks for the contribution Joe.--MichaelH (talk) 20:20, 8 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Walker Page

I wrote up a page documenting the Walker class. It's pretty complete but I couldn't figure out whether I should just move it out to the real page or leave it at my user page. Should I just move it out or if you want to do so go ahead. Sorry but I don't have time or inclination to join the mailing list but I thought others might benefit some from my writeup anyway. TruePath 05:19, 15 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it should probably be called what you suggest. I will change it. I'm still feeling my way around the editing/style conventions on this site so others probably know better than I. BTW if I write up another page to a similar level of detail should I move it to the real location myself? TruePath 01:35, 16 Jun 2007 (UTC)
You're a proven writer--put the pages where you think appropriate. Thanks again for your contributions. --02:05, 16 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Question about License info

Thanks for the welcome.

My themes were removed from the list because they did not include any license/usage information.

Where should I include this information once I've decided which license to use? Will it be okay to simply add the license info to the readme or do I also need to include it in the footer of the theme? -- User:Powweb

User:Powweb -- For the Codex, you need to put that copyright information in with the description of the theme--just look at some of the other entries for an example. As for where you place it in your actual theme files, I believe many authors put that information in syle.css and footer.php. --MichaelH (talk) 14:36, 18 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Update of upgrade instructions

Hi, I've rewritten the upgrade quick instructions. Since you made the last changes to them, could you help me check whether they're correct? If yes, could you move them from the discussion page to the article? Thanks --Felix 05:24, 24 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Codex Localization

Hi, Michael. I'm maintaining Indonesian localization for WordPress. And now I'm planning to localize the content of Codex to my language (Indonesian). Some poeple have contacted me and are willing to lay their hand.

How to do this? Is it just by simply creating a new page, e.g. codex.wordpress.org/id:Main_Page ? Or should I ask the permission to use a id namespace first?

Looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

Sorry I missed this before--that is probably a question you should direct to User:Matt. MichaelH (talk) 15:06, 12 Sep 2007 (UTC)

A little help

I'm wondering if I could have the attention of anyone in authority to deal with the volunteers on the support side, I have a matter to discuss with someone about how I was treated by a volunteer. If you could get someone to contact me, I would really appreciate it. You can find contact information at nathanr.ca/contact.

Thank you very much. Nathanrdotca 03:29, 12 Sep 2007 (UTC)

Thank you Michael for the kind words!

Thank you Michael for the kind words! I'm trying to improve the Gengo documentation initiated by Christophe. However, 2 remarks :

  • my PHP knowledge is small, and the description of Gengo template functions comes from the online sources about Gengo, + my own understanding of the function code. So there are probably mistakes and inaccuracies;
  • my English is not perfect either and I'm afraid there might be language mistakes as well...

But anyways, I still believe that this work can be useful to some people! So everybody is very welcome to correct these pages! Nadglobtrotter 16:26, 18 Sep 2007 (UTC)

Hi Michael. You asked about my problem with AJAX Comments:

When I activate the AJAX Comments 2.08 plugin under 2.3RC1, I get the following error in the plugins panel: "

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in ...\wp-content\plugins\ajax-comments\ajax-comments.php on line 237

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error."

I tried this on two different test sites. Works just fine with the same theme on my 2.2.3 site.

Gengo plugin page

Hello Michael,

I have seen there is a new page about Gengo plugin at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gengo/. Is there anyway to add to the blue box in that page a link to the codex page Christophe and I have been working on (http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Gengo) ? It could help new users use the plugin, and allow more experimented users complete the codex page. I don't think I can edit the plugin page, so that's why I ask you.

Thanks for your help,

Nadege

Nadglobtrotter 14:56, 31 Oct 2007 (UTC)

Nadege -- that is something you would need to request of the Automattic folk that manage the http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ MichaelH (talk) 16:50, 31 Oct 2007 (UTC)

Thanks,
