Codex Localization

Hi Michael, It's for a while that I created a translated version of wordpress codex. I'm working on it and will have good progress soon. Every page I translated I put the link to localized but the main page is not editable, There's other languages there but I couldn't add my language. Any help is appreciated. Thank you! fixing Template fax

Thank you for your efforts. The new template working fine with many pages but have some issues with pages that have '\' in their title. have a look at this : http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/do_action The output is http://www.isawpi.ir/wiki/Function_Reference%2Fdo_action while it must be http://www.isawpi.ir/wiki/Function_Reference/do_action I don't know how to fix that . deleted images

Hi Michael,

thanks for the post on my Talk, and I saw you deleted the images I had uploaded.

Those images were actually part of something I am still writing and it will probably take a bit of time for me to finish it as well. Basically it is a concept I am trying to develop around a type of "more" tag around WordPress excerpts. Typically excerpts that have been manually crafted do or would not show any visual indication that there is more to be had, even if there is a link to the bigger post. In an automatic excerpt, the moretext is added and it makes sense to add it at the end of a line because the line is really truncated. But you can't do that to a non-truncated line, it makes no sense.

So you will need something else, a symbol of one kind or another. And I just was writing on one of the codex page (the examples section for get_the_excerpt() I believe, which makes no sense at all currently, there is a function example for trimming down an already trimmed-down automatic excerpt to a precise number of maximum characters but it doesn't use any filters (and hence wouldn't even work the way it is written), it doesn't distinguish between automatic and manual excerpts, it doesn't respect the moretext filter, etcetera. Furthermore it seems impossible to get a theme to completely respect a given text length since you'll have word wraps at unknown word boundaries, and so on.)

So as part of that writing and developing I had to upload those images and obviously I haven't committed anything so the images were orphans. But I hope you can allow me to at least finish that write-up, if not for the Codex at least it is useful for myself and you can always opt to reject a contribution like that after it is done.

I would also like to ask where to ask questions?

There is a mailing list but subscribing to a list requires a bit too much investment for what I want at present.

My current question is simply:

  • if I consider an image out of date, but I am not in the position or willingness to update it myself, how can I tag or flag it as needing an update?
  • that said, what is the proper tag for regular pages for doing the same?
  • what is the relevant help page on this subject?

Xennex81 11:04, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

Xennex81 - I would recommend you invest the time to register for the Codex email list.
As for your questions:
  • use the [[Category:Old pages]] to mark the image old
  • same for other articles
  • see Categorizing Images
Thank you for contributing to Codex. --MichaelH (talk) 14:00, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello Michael, Thanks for adding the cat to wp_normalize_path() function page. I was so exited to create a function page on codex, that I forgot to put the last piece of the puzzle :) Thanks TC

Myanmar language

Trying to reach you regarding repeated blocks

Hi Michael, when you blocked me earlier - there was no way for me to correspond with you without creating a new account. Can I email with you or should I post thoughts here? jeff@lookahead.io. Thx!

Trying to get in touch with you

... to discuss the blocks you've put on my account. What is the best way?

To jeff@lookahead.io - you've posted numerous links including copyright violation links. If you promise to stop posting links to outside sources in Codex I will unblock one of the accounts--you tell me which one you want unblocked. Let me know. --MichaelH (talk) 17:28, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Michael, can you clarify why it's inappropriate to link to sources that provide useful info - for example ... this link http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Installing_WordPress_at_AWS only provides specialized scaling info for AWS/WordPress ... it doesn't address simpler installations as the one you removed did http://jeffreifman.com/detailed-wordpress-guide-for-aws/ ... ditto for materials about w3tc/varnish that had been there for a long time.

I had completely revamped the performance/optimization areas in the codex but still had links to more detailed guides.

When the materials are solid and detailed, it seems to do a disservice to the codex community to remove links ...

To jeff@lookahead.io - if the material in Codex is weak, please improve the article. That's the best thing you can do for Codex users. Throwing Links into articles is not the answer. On another issue, you have a domain (publishingwithwordpress) that violates copyright rules--please fix that. --MichaelH (talk) 13:12, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Michael, I've updated the domain links to pubwp.com. My two cents ... the codex doesn't allow for the layout and richness that a blog does e.g. http://jeffreifman.com/detailed-wordpress-guide-for-aws/install-w3-total-cache/ e.g. image carousels et al. why don't you reactivate jeff@lookahead.io - I'll use that one going forward.

Jeff, your domain name is in violation of the WordPress trademark, and your links are not welcome on the codex or anywhere else on WordPress.org. If you want to contribute, then that's fine, but all you contributed was links to external sites, most of which are your own. We do not welcome that, we consider it spam, and your account will not be reactivated. Otto42 (talk) 18:38, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
Michael, Otto - I tried to comply but maybe Otto didn't notice. I registered the domain pubwp.com instead of publishingwithwordpress.com and changed the url links - and Otto blocked me. And when you block people they can't communicate with you and I had to reregister ... . If you look back, I've done substantial textual edits around the site including a complete revamp of your performance section ... On the installing AWS section, you have links to another third party site that has nothing to do with installation (it only covers high performance scaling) - my installation AWS link was up there for a year - and only now did you folks call it spam. This is all pretty ridiculous and hostile. It turns me off to participating in the WP community. I give up. If you want to reach me - send an email to leff at lookahead dot io.

Review entries in "I18n for WordPress Developers"

Hi Michael, sorry to bother you here, can you please revert some changes in this page: http://codex.wordpress.org/I18n_for_WordPress_Developers

A user replaced, probably without realising, a section in english with spanish.

thanks, p.

Fixed thank you for the note. --MichaelH (talk) 01:22, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
