Excellent edits on the Writing Posts page. Thanks for your contributions to Codex, and welcome to the documentation effort! :)
Note from NuclearMoose 09:35, 9 Jan 2005 (GMT)
Important: Please read and follow the Codex Guidelines before creating a new page.
After creating the new page, use [[Category:New_page_created]] at the bottom of the page, and it will be flagged for quality control and editing, if necessary.
Thank you for contributing to Codex!
Hey, thanks for the work at the Features page. Hope to see you around more!
Sorry to butt in, but you can add pages you edit to your watchlist, or change the preferences so the wiki adds all pages you edit to your watchlist. Then on the recent changes pages, pages you have edited will appear in bold. This is how I keep track of the pages I edit and replies to comments.
Hi Lorelle,
The Answers-X pages go hand in hand with the FAQ questions page. Most were created by podz, and each section or answer in the answers page is linked to from a corresponding FAQ. You can find out the sum total of all codex pages that link to a certain page by clicking the "what links here" link in the left menu's "toolbox" section when you are at the page. Hope that helps.
I was the one who updated a couple of links you had made to the answers pages - updating them to links to the FAQ sections instead :)
As a matter of fact, maybe the answers pages need to have something on top that tells folks that it contains answers to the questions in the FAQ page, else they wouldn't know, and it wouldn't make sense. Feel free to edit the Answers pages to add a small message on top that says this, or I will do so whenever I can...
Podz did it this way since he thought that this way we can have all the questions on one page, and then have multiple "answers" pages.
Also, all the pages linked off of the "more..." text on the mainpage need to have all the links in that section on the mainpage. You can feel free to add more links if you so desire and if you find relevant pages, but please do not remove links that are there on the mainpage, from the page linked-to by the "more..." text. Example in point - the "WordPress in your language" link in the Getting_Started_with_WordPress page. It makes sense to have all the links in that section on the page, and then some, if there are any others.
Lorelle, what I meant was that the pages linked-to from the more text should have all the links that the section has on the main page, not vice-versa. Hope it is clearer now.
With regards to cross-linking, it would be nice if every page had a single "parent", so that organization is preserved, but if a page does belong to more than one section, go for it. Adding these links to the "more..." page of the relevant sections may be nice. In other words, on the main page, there should be no repetitive links, but in the pages linked-to from the more pages, there could be, depending on need.
Hi, http://wiki.wordpress.org/?pagename=How%20To%20Blog%20By%20Email will need to be modified and tested for 1.5.
As for the link manager, there is no comprehensive how to, though the old wiki has a couple of related articles Carthik 20:41, 17 Feb 2005 (GMT)
Hi Lorelle, I added a comment to the Codex:Tasks discussion page, in response. Thanks
Hi Lorelle,
Did you want me to start the moving process for Lessons stuff on Thursday or are you? I can do it towards the end of the day, if you want. I'd like to put it under Getting Started with WordPress, since it applies, and not give it it's own section. Or should we? Maybe they are "that" important?
I will try to get a grip on this later in the day today (after 9 PM). If you are free later in the evening, you can start "moving them in", under Getting Started with WordPress if you like.
I'm also still in debate mode about Lesson or Lessons for the page name and setting them up as subpages such as Lessons/Making_Fun_of_CSS or independent pages. Which do you think is best?
Please do not add "Lesson" or "Lessons" preceding the page title. There was a discussion earlier wherein we decided that adding "Tutorial", "howto" etc to page titles does not add much information, and is cruft, in a manner of speaking. If you want to make them all a series, then create a section heading on the organizer page with the links to the lessons and list all the lessons under the section.
I also haven't noticed any edits on those pages, and there are some things I'm a little nervous about, especially on User:Lorelle/Stylizing_Page-Links and the very end of User:Lorelle/Stepping_Into_Template_Tags. I'm especially proud of myself on the last article.
I will devote some time as soon as I can. Right now, I spend half hour to an hour cleaning up random pages etc. I will be glad to go through the pages and do what I can to improve them. I beleive that some of the pages you have written would wrap or merge nicely into some other existing pages that are pretty bland and short right now, but we can deal with this later. Please do not create subpages, since we sort of agreed that subpages are to be used only where there is a logical structure, as with template tags. Plain old pages without "lesson" or "lessons" at the beginning of the title should be great. Nothing is written in stone, and we can change these things later, if neccessary. What you might hopefully notice is people editing and improving pages when you move things in, so release early :)
Thanks a million!
So, about those "new page" templates - I thought only [[Category:New_page_created]] was needed? The guidelines don't mention {{Newpage}}, if this is also needed as a tracking measure than perhaps they should be modified...
I appreciate all your hand-holding on stuff like this :)

By default, mediawiki does not add TOCs to pages with less than 4 sections, if you want to force it, add a __FORCETOC__ to the top of the page. If you add a __TOC__ instead, it will place the TOC at the exact location where you typed in the text, instead of at the top of the page.
Is this comment the right way to talk to you?

Lorelle, great job on the New To WordPress - Where to Start page. It's the needed road map for us new kids on the block. Your contributions are amazing and appreciated! MichaelH 18:23, 1 May 2005 (UTC)
Hi Lorelle, sorry I haven't been around to look at the Lesson Discussion discussion. My schedule is quite erratic, so just fyi I'm probably not the best person to go to with time-sensitive assignments - I'll take a peek today though. - yami 21:36, 1 May 2005 (UTC)
LV Sorry, didn't intend to slight anybody--probably got carried away in the heat of the moment...big mouth of mine. I am aware of the immense amount of work contributed by everyone in the Forum, and in developement, and in Codex. "Intensions" simple--don't know I have much to contribute to the WordPress programming effort but can help in Codex. MichaelH 12:50, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
LV Okay Boss (isn't that how you put it?), I'll gladly look at the Special:Wantedpages. I was under the impression that The Loop was the preferred method for referring to that page. That's the form I'll use unless otherwise instructed. Thanks for the guidance. MichaelH 19:29, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
Hey Lorelle, Looked at the Category:Maintenance and cleaned up in the Special:Double Redirects, Special:Broken Redirects, and Pages with misspellings. I'm a bit dense about what else I should look at there. Any help or guidance there is appreciated. Thanks!
Lorelle,
Please go ahead with your plan of having a "lessons" team. I will be in and around, but due to the variations in the demands imposed by my work, I will not be able to say for sure that I will be available on a particular day, or time. I will be glad to help you in whatever way I can, so please let me know if you need help.
Hi Lorelle,
I just wanted to ask you what you think of creating a new Category called "Lessons" which will act as a list of all the lessons. This will solve the problem of updating the lessons template after each new lesson is created and added, and also minimize the number of links at the bottom of each Lesson. I already find the list of lessons at the bottom of the lessons pages sort of long, and difficult to read.
Please let me know what you think
Hi Lorelle,
The way a new category would work is just the way the Category:Stubs page works currently. Click on any page in that page to see how it looks at the bottom. Of course, if you think that it's not god enough, then we'll drop the idea. You only need to add Category:Lessons to mark an article as a lesson, and of course, you can subdivide lessons into different seperate categories too.
Lorelle, hope you don't mind starting a new section here...seems to make it easier to read... Semantic is good especially now I've looked up that word in the dictionary ;-} I'll look at that file on your web-site and use that for the basis of an article. Thanks for the encouragement.
Thanks for that assist on the a ref--thought I tried that but didn't work--but will use that next time. One day I might even be able to answer a technical question ;-} As always your help is appreciated. Good luck with the accessibility though your links show you've got that covered. MichaelH (talk) 17:47, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
Lorelle:
You hit the nail on the head about creating Talk Pages for User who don't bother to create a User Page--I wondered about creating new pages no one will read. I've asked for comments from the man User_talk:Carthik#Who to Welcome. Also, thanks for the encouragement and the kind words. MichaelH (talk) 13:51, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
Lorelle; can you look at this FAQ_Installation and tell me what you think of this format. Thanks MichaelH (talk) 14:52, 30 May 2005 (UTC) just fixed link thanks MichaelH (talk) 20:11, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Lorelle;
Okay, I've moved everything from User:MichaelH/Reworked_FAQ into appropriate new FAQs except for the following sections. Don't know where these really belong???
I also created FAQ was User:MichaelH/FAQ as the index to the FAQ pages. just fixed link thanks MichaelH (talk) 20:13, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Based on how things happen, I'd hesitate before getting rid of the old FAQ or the related Answer-xxxx pages. Don't want to start a war ;-}
TOC Issues :
I think we really need some help from Carthik or other sysops regards the FAQ TOCs. Manually producing TOCs is a royal pain. I've put comments around the code you put in FAQ Installation because I added a bunch of stuff there. My vote is for automatic TOC that is allowed to float to the top left.
LV:
Just as a point of reference, I've got a demo MediaWiki installed and the TOC by default floats top left. I have my Skin Preferences on my demo install set to MonoBook but in Codex setting it to MonoBook or Codex gives the same result. So here's the toc section from my MediaWiki 1.4.0 skins/monobook/main.css. Maybe that will help Carthik.
#toc { /*border:1px solid #2f6fab;*/ border:1px solid #aaaaaa; background-color:#f9f9f9; padding:5px; font-size: 95%; } #toc .tocindent { margin-left: 2em; } #toc .tocline { margin-bottom: 0px; } #toc p { margin: 0 } #toc .toctoggle { font-size: 94%; } #toc .editsection { margin-top: 0.7em; font-size: 94%; }
LV: I emailed the Mediawiki admins list about the TOC thingy but got no response, at least yet. Some of the big people on that list are in Europe so may not get an answer till Wed.
List of all pages in User namespace. Don't know how to give you a count of those pages. MichaelH (talk) 15:04, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
LV; I'm purging the information at User:MichaelH#Meetup_Info, please copy it if you need it. Thanks! MichaelH (talk) 13:12, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Can you tell why or look at why this page is 'protected' Enable_Sending_Referrers? Please note this question was posed by User:Ers81239 in Talk:Enable_Sending_Referrers. Also, seems the history is a bit 'short' on that article--kind of along the same lines as the 'short' Special:Log I mentioned via IRC today; maybe signs of a database issue? You can decide if this should be put in User:Matt/wp_forums_todo. Thanks for looking at this.
Would definitely say something is askew with the database table logging. MichaelH (talk) 14:27, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'll look at noob article needs after I've finished purging all the dead links from the css section and replacing them with working new ones, a task I've already begun. Does that work? kickass
Hi LV; Re: User:Matt/codex todo it seems the URL not changing on a REDIRECT is a 'standard' MediaWiki thing. Look at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Talk_page and click on the Help:Automatic conversion of wikitext link in the middle of the page. Notice the URL vs the actual page REDIRECT name. Same issue you're talking about?
You blocked me (RollinThundaOne) and my IP for adding my link throughout the site. I'm not going to play stupid here, I know I did it. I wanted to increase traffic, and I figured this was the way many people did it, for I could see many links to other's sites. Um... yea, that'll never happen again. You've got my word - even if a link to my site would be a relevent addition to an article, I will just move on. Check my posts periodically, limit what I can do, take my first born, just please, please unblock me. Trust me, if I really wanted to spam, you would have noticed - I have over a hundred different proxy servers ready for routing - but I don't need/want to. I really like that name, so please unblock me.
Thanks, RollinThundaOne aka ThundaOne
PS: Even if you don't unblock, I was really suprised at how fast and accurately you did it. Half of me wants to yell at you, and the other half wants to thank you for cleaning up Codex!
PSS: If you would like to contact me, my email address is listed on my site: www... just kidding. Email is WebmasterThunda@Gmail.com.
edit: 5:17 PM Eastern Standard Time Allright, I just saw the recent change whereas you reverted that thing... ok, any excuse isn't going to work. I just wanted to say that my word still stands - I posted the "A Plead" thing long after the thing you reverted. Trust is the only thing I really care about. I just wanted to say I'm sorry.
From my talk page:
Hey,
I was wondering: how would I go about creating a table of contents for my own user page? I've searched all throughout Codex, and can't find any help for this issue. If you could render any assistance, or even just point me in the right direction, it would be very appreciated.
Thank you, --Tony 00:21, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
(EDIT) Found a link on your page that tells me all about it! Thanks! --Tony 00:27, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Hey! Thanks for the note. You should just probably have someone edit it to match, I am heading back to work and won't have much time and that took me awhile to write up as it is. =) But I will spend more time on my next day off and get the run of things done. A quick question too, I wasn't sure but is it possible to write more articles? I think it is, but I just want to be sure...
REMINDER
WE NEED YOU!
Codex Cleanup Week is Saturday, June 18 through Sunday, June 26. This is a major push to clean up the Codex and stuff it full of great documenation so we can relax a little this summer.
Thanks for everything you do! Lorelle 21:43, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Greetings Lorelle, I signed up to revamp the Multiple_Loops section. Its done, check it out. Its all I know about the topic. I hope it helps. Let me know if anything needs adjusting. Clarke1866 25/05/05
Hi Lorelle. I volunteered for the Codex cleanup. I am up to doing anything that doesn't involve much PHP. I would really enjoy doing some faq work, grammar, etc. If that's not possible, place me where I'm needed. Thanks! Spirit892
Hey, Lorelle! First draft of "Styling your WordPress Forms" is up here: http://kickasswebdesign.com/wordpress/2005/06/styling-your-wordpress-forms/ Comments, gripes, bitches, belches, edits, and kudos appreciated. When everyone's done tearing it apart I'll put it back together and post it on the codex. kickass 02:38, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Hey, Lorelle! Here I was trying to save you work after your monster codex updating effort (thanks, btw!) by posting the favicon thing to podz' codex page, figuring he was more likely to be handling geeky server thingies, and here it ends up back in your lap! Anyway, the favicon I made, whch is simply that cute sunflower in the upper left corner of all codex pages shrunk down to favicon size, is here: [1] Do with it what you will, but the codex really needs some sort of favicon to help us who surf with many many multitabs to distinguish the codex pages from all those others. Besides, pages with favicons look more finished and "professional", and we want WP to shine, don't we?
I did some updating to the Gravatar article... I added some images and described them a little better. I took the last example link and removed the http:// stuff and left only the basic directory structure to try and break it up a little.
I don't know if it was you that edited the look of the page, if it was you, thank you very much. I will browse through it and some more articles and see how they are constructed better. =)

Lorelle -- sorry about the user talk issue. Still learning MediaWiki, and all that. Anyway, the WP Hardening guide still isn't anywhere near ready for inclusion in the main Codex, though the edits by others so far have been very helpful. --Eads 08:54, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Heh -- live and learn, eh? I thought simply linking to it from my user page would make it a subpage of my user page. I made a ton of edits this morning, though, so it's getting there. --Eads 15:41, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
skippy 15:43, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC) I added a clarifying question to the talk on Writing_Code_in_Your_Posts

Hi Lorelle, I'm as done as I will be (for a while) with User:RobLa/Development Planning, so feel free to publish as you see fit. I'll wait until you've made your pass before sending out a note to wp-hackers about it. Thanks! -- RobLa 07:12, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
In regards this little guy's generated header (<li class="pagenav">Pages), if you read the parameter info for title_li you find the documentation indeed states that by not setting it, the default is __('Pages'). The __() changed at some point in the code (and must be a bug if all internally displayed text is meant to be translate-able). Perhaps a better question is, why doesn't it stick to the new standard for template tag-generated headers and have it as <li class="pagenav"><h2>Pages</h2>? Whatever.
For documentation and so on, it's important to keep in mind that 'title_li= ' (note the single space) removes just the text header, where 'title_li=' removes the text, and the <li class="pagenav"> and <ul> elements around the Pages link list. In both cases there can be unintended consequences if one doesn't know what they're doing. But then, that's true of almost everything. -Kaf 02:22, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
LV recently you made a comment (somewhere) that an email you posted seemed to have been placed under a totally different topic. This might have to do with a recent slap I received on another mailing list. When starting a new topic on an email list, start the email from scratch. In other words, don't take an email from another thread, change the subject, and post, as some email programs 'internally' still know you used the original subject to begin the email. Don't know if that is your situation but thought you'd like to know (if you didn't already).
Lorelle; Congratulations on a most successful Codex Cleanup Week. Without you it would not have succeeded (or even happened!). Job well done from one of the minions!!! Thank you.
The Codex Documenation Team and all of WordPress thank you for your time, effort, and contributions during this past Codex Cleanup Week. It has been amazing. Over twenty new documents were added, and more are still in the works that will be released over the next couple of weeks. The entire Codex is now categorized, improving the ability of users to find the related information they are looking for.
The next big Codex-related event is WordPress Backup Week July 23-30. The project will promote backing up your WordPress database and site for the user's protection and further develop the relationship between the Codex and the WordPress Support Forum. Documentation volunteers will be cleaning up and expanding the backup and restore information on the site and Forum volunteers will be readied to help users in the Forum walk through their site backups. We need your help.
We are also starting a page for information and sign up for a variety of Fundraising and Promotions Events for WordPress and your help is needed there, too.
Thanks again for helping.
Lorelle and the whole Cleanup Codex volunteer team
Hey Lorelle-
I'm really sorry, but I'm sick right now with the chicken pox and I won't be able to work on my article for a few days. Sorry!

Hey LV; I'm in process of revising User Levels so could you decide what you want to do with User_Levels#WordPress_1.2. I thought you mentioned getting rid of references to most of the stuff prior to 1.5 but remembered created a site architecture page for 1.2 and 1.5. So delete the User_Levels#WordPress_1.2 section, or move it to it's own page, or leave it as a section in User Levels? Thanks.
Ms. Relle; did you intend for there to be this FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_do_I_fix_the_following_error_SQL.2FDB_Error_Got_error_28_from_table_handler.3F and this FAQ_Troubleshooting#MySQL_Error_28?
Lorelle; might want to consider a notice on top of each of these pages warning users that they're deprecated or something like that so people don't edit and update the old versions.
Relle; Might want to look at how the Main Page makes referral to V. 1.5.1 and not 1.5.1.3. Not a big thing but something to consider???
LV; one last thing. Seems there's some confusing about upgrading, so suggest something like this for section Upgrading#Upgrade_Instructions_Per_Version.
LV; on the Forum 'sticky' http://wordpress.org/support/topic/27902#post-158185 there's reference to this Codex article. Can they change the post on the forum to point to something better or should the http://codex.wordpress.org/Getting_more_help be made into something or Redirected somewhere?
Lorelle, thanks for the warm welcome. Now that I have my WP site set up, I have a little more time and will take a look at the Codex Task List and see what I can do to help. WP is very cool and a lot of fun, and it makes sense to support it.
Good idea, Lorelle. If you can give that archive page a push into the trash with your admin muscles, that'd be great too. Thanks again. --Schulte 14:15, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Sure thing, Lorelle. Hopefully things will run smooth while you're relocating. --Schulte 15:56, 7 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Hey Lorelle! I'm feeling much better now. I was wondering for just a little more guidance with my article. What more do you think should be added, deleted, etc.? Any help would be appreciated. Dannnnny 00:04, 7 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Is there a category or should we add a category for information about stuff in WP that is in development, stuff that will make it in for a later release?
I don't believe I wrote that example, but I'll take a look and see if MCincubus' correction is...correct. -Kaf 18:52, 19 Jul 2005 (UTC)
